Coming up with the name!
Coming up with a name for anything can be complicated. However, it's not as difficult as some people make it out to be. Like choosing a company name. As, in NASCAR, team owners normally use names that are associated with themselves. For example, Joe Gibbs just added 'Racing' to his name to come up with JGR. For Hendrick's Motorsports, Rick Hendrick took his last name and just added Motorsports to it. So how do some people make coming up with a name so complicated? Well, I may not be able to come up with the answer. But, what I do know while coming up with a name for this podcast I struggled a little bit. I then thought about racing and how fast the weekend flys by. Before you know it, we're back on Monday, starting another work day after a weekend off. Therefore, I came up with The Week PullUp.
Who am I?
I'm 20 years old, from Central New York. I grew up watching NASCAR and listening to country music, (no not "wanna-be" country music; I listen to the good stuff from the 1970s-2015. In 2014 my dad took me to Skyline Views Drag Strip. He showed me a Jr Dragster and I looked at him and said: "Dad it would be cool to drive one of them." He did some research and looked around for a Jr Dragster. Unfortunately, after he passed away unexpectedly of lung cancer that dream disappeared. However, during my 8th-grade year of middle school, I was offered a position as an assistant coach for my school. Of course, I accepted the position. Went through a lot of courses just to become a coach but it was sure worth it! If I could I would definitely do it again! In the summer of 2020, I graduated High School with a New York State Regents High School Diploma with Technical Endorsement in Criminal Justice.
More than just a dream!
After I, started coaching at my school, I got more interested in being able to call sports contests. I got the opportunity to do so when I was asked to record/coach junior varsity and varsity boys' basketball. After graduating high school, my dream of calling games started to become reality! When I got an internship, in September 2020, with ESPN Ithaca. There I was able to learn about what all goes into a broadcast from sig-notes to scrips to the equipment. When that ended at the start of the 2021 NASCAR Campaign, was when I decided to expand my knowledge and use what I was taught at ESPN for my own advantage! So here it is, The Week PullUp was created! I hope that you will be able to grow with me as we recap each race and talk about the motorsports world!
